Kendrick Lamar has started a lot of drama in the hip-hop world, and even...the NBA?
Former Los Angeles Lakers' coach Phil Jackson fired off this tweet in response to Lamar's verse mentioning the legend's name:
@kendricklamar it’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring.
Of course, this is a calm response to Lamar's verse, which aimed this line at Jackson:
Who the f**k y’all thought it’s supposed to be?
If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin’ me
I’m uncoachable, I’m unsociable.
The whole verse on his collaboration on Big Sean's
Control sparked much controversy among rappers and the public.
Here's the entire verse that caught attention:

I heard the barbershops be in great debates all the time
Bout who's the best MC? Kendrick, Jigga and Nas
Eminem, Andre 3000, the rest of y'all
New niggas just new niggas, don't get involved
I'm usually homeboys with the same niggas I'm rhymin' wit
But this is hip hop and them niggas should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you niggas
Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas
They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas
What is competition? I'm tryna raise the bar high
Who tryna jump and get it? You better off tryna skydive
Out the exit window of 5 G5’s with 5 grand
With your granddad as the pilot he drunk as fuck tryna land
With the hand full of arthritis and popping prosthetic leg
Bumpin Pac in the cockpit so the shit that pops in his head
Is an option of violence, someone heard the stewardess saidThat your parachute is a latex condom hooked to a dread
Interesting how rappers NOT mentioned in this verse are firing at Lamar, and those include Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B., and Joell Ortiz.
In
SLR 2, Lupe Fiasco rapped,
"N---- you ain't Nas, n---- you ain't Jay Z/You will respect me, you will reject me/But I've done so much, no matter how far you go, you will reflect me."
According to
MTV, "B.o.B.'s
How 2 Rap included not only his boasts — '
I know that I'm shinin', I know that I'm shinin'/Don't worry, 'cause you can find shade in my shadow" — but also his instrumental prowess, when he launched into a guitar solo after saying,
'Give me my guitar pick, I'll show you s---.' "
Brooklyn MC Joell Ortiz fired with,
"Homey, you ain't the king of New York, you're the next thing on my fork."
Meanwhile, others felt Lamar was just waking up the game...reminding all of these emcees to stay on their toes.
Diddy's
RevoltTV tweeted:
Hip Hop was born out of competition and raised by battles. This is what Music needs. More people who want to be the BEST not BEST FRIENDS.#CONTROL
Big Sean tweeted:

@Pusha T

@kendricklamar
Gladiator Shit"...Gotta give the people what they want .
If I can't do no more nouns or verbs ima start comin with the wildest adjective bars that anyone has ever heard.
I don't feel like dissed anybody. He just has moved up to another level. Y'all late overly dedicated nigga! Bruh been fire!!!
Even rap OG
Ice T got in the mix tweeting:
I love how ONE verse woke Hip Hop the FUCK up.. It's been a LONG time since people talked about ANYTHING someone said in their rhyme....Hey, Hip Hop stripes are born in battle.. Me and LL did our thing back in the day.. It's part of the game.
Personally, I think Kendrick is just being an emcee and doing what emcee's do...battle.
It looks like the rappers he mentioned are really taking this personally.
He didn't say anything terrible, just that he wants to be the top player in the game!
Personally, this is my favorite
Control.
